- It is customary to place a monument by the burial site of the deceased.

- It is wrong to place a double monument when one of the spouses is still alive, for that shows lack of belief in Moshiach who will arrive any day now. (Igros Moshe Y.D. 2:153)
- It is not proper to place a picture on a monument.
- The Hebrew name of the deceased and his father's Hebrew name plus the Hebrew date of his passing is inscribed on the monument.
