Sylvia Nyer - Bangor - Sylvia(Alpert) Nyer, 83, died April 13, 1991, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 14, 1907, at Dolhinov, Russia, the daughter of Zalman and Rose (Kopkind) Alpert. In 1917, during WWI and the Russian Revolution, her mother and five small children, including Sylvia, escaped from Russia traveling east across Russia, China, Japan and the Pacific Ocean, and arrived in the United States at Bangor, a journey of 21,000 miles and one years
