Furniture Company Founder Dies Here At The Age Of 80. - Louis Rapaport, 80, founder of the New Central Furniture Company on State Street, and prominent Eastern Maine business man, died Sunday evening at a local hospital following a short illness. Mr. Rapaport also was a franchised auto dealer in 1919 in Millinocket. He was a resident of 115 Essex St. Born in Lithuania, June 19, 1885, he was the son of Jacob and Esther Zelda Rapaport. Mr. Rapaport was past president of Beth Israel Synagogue, past president of the Bangor-Hebrew School and was active in the Pine Tree Chapter of B'nai B'rith. He also was a member of the Zionist organization of America, the Jewish Community Council and the Jewish Home for the Aged in Portland. He was a member of the Bangor Lodge of Elks. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Rosa Alta (Harris)Rapaport of Bangor, are two sons, Jack of Brewer, and A. David of Bangor; three daughters Mrs. Ida Glaser of Medford Mass., Mrs. Anne Podolsky of Old Town and Mrs. Sarah Striar of Bangor; two Sisters, Mrs. Libby Baris of New York and Mrs. Ida Shur of Bangor; several grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
